Temporary medical billing services
A person joins your team for a leave, a vacancy, or a surge. You keep the process. Quality follows your supervision. This is the plain meaning of temporary medical biller services and of much “interim” staffing.
INTERIM CAPACITY / REMOTE / TEMP-TO-HIRE
Interim revenue cycle management staffing is how organizations cover a revenue-cycle seat without pretending the seat is permanent. The models differ in who employs the person, where they sit, and whether the end state is a hire, a handback, or a different way of doing the work.
The usual models are a temporary biller or coder, a remote support arrangement, an outsourced queue, a temp-to-hire trial, and software that prepares repetitive work for your own team to approve. Cost is the written bill rate plus ramp-up and supervision, not a national interim fee. BLS publishes wages for medical records specialists, not interim contract prices.

The same role, off site. Remote work can widen the pool. It also fails when access, time zones, and SNF-specific questions are not designed. Ask what they have billed for skilled nursing facilities, not whether they own a laptop.
You send a defined queue and accept completed work back, with exceptions named in the contract. Use this when you do not want to manage a person. Do not use it as a synonym for remote staffing. The responsibility split is the product.
The assignment is a trial. Conversion fees, the length of the trial, and who may end it are the contract. Temp-to-hire is a hiring method. It still requires the same SNF, payer, and system questions as any other placement.
Coding support and billing support are different skills. A coder who can speak to MDS and PDPM inputs is not automatically the person who will work your rejection queue. Split the request so the résumé matches the pile.
There is no published national price for interim RCM staffing. Use the cost breakdown for a temporary biller: wage benchmark from BLS, the bill rate the firm will put in writing, non-productive time, and exit terms.
May 2025 median pay for medical records specialists was $24.59 an hour. Management of companies and enterprises, one of the higher industry medians in that handbook, was $60,980 a year. Hospitals were $59,120. Those figures describe employees. An interim leader or a specialized SNF biller can sit outside them. Collect the quote. Do not back into it from the median.
Also price the handback. Interim people leave with the workarounds in their head unless your team writes down payer quirks, census cuts, and which accounts are in dispute.
Some interim requests are really a request for throughput. The organization does not lack judgment. It lacks hours for preparation that follows documentation and rules. In a SNF, that preparation still has to respect assessment instructions and PDPM classification materials. Software that shows the source statement, the rule, and the gap can take repetitive passes off the team. It does not employ an interim director, and it does not file claims by itself while the production billing lifecycle is still being completed.
Read staffing versus automation if you are choosing a vendor category, and the backlog guide if the interim request started because the queue aged.
WHERE CHARTTRACE FITS
ChartTrace is AI-assisted, evidence-backed skilled nursing revenue-cycle technology. The control sequence is documented source material, then an AI proposal, then a rule-determined check, then a human decision. Human billers remain in control of final approval. Supported routine work is intended to advance when the evidence and the effective-dated rule support it. Exceptions stay with a person.
ChartTrace is not a medical billing staffing agency, not a temp-to-hire recruiter, and not a remote biller for hire. It does not replace the qualified person who owns the final release. Customer staffing reductions, accuracy percentages, and reimbursement outcomes are not claimed here because they are not established. Clearinghouse connectivity and the complete production billing lifecycle are still being completed.
ChartTrace is the automation alternative in this list for skilled nursing revenue cycle work: documented, proposed, rule-checked, and human-approved. It is not interim staffing, not remote staff augmentation, and not a temp-to-hire program. Use it beside a person when the person should spend time on exceptions rather than on every repetitive pass.
Interim RCM staffing is temporary capacity for the revenue cycle: a biller, a coder, a remote support pod, or a short-term lead, used while a permanent role is open or a surge ends. It is a staffing model. It is not the same thing as software that prepares evidence-backed work for a human to approve.
Temp-to-hire means the person starts as a temporary assignment, and the organization may later employ them directly if the work and the fit hold up. Confirm the conversion fee, the trial length, and who supervises quality during the temporary period. Those terms vary by firm and are not standardized in a public rate.
Remote work changes where the person sits, not what they must know. Medicare Part A skilled nursing payment is organized under the Patient Driven Payment Model and depends on assessment data and claim rules. Ask whether the remote person has done that work, in your software, for payers you actually bill.
A CAPACITY DECISION, NOT A SLOGAN
Interim staffing hires time. ChartTrace prepares a class of SNF work so your own billers can approve it. The overview shows that path. Product pricing is separate from staffing rates.
